What is an Innovation Plan?
It's the framework for change. A plan that is designed to be a little disruptive in the fact that it's not something consistently done and maybe a little out of the ordinary, but much needed!
The Perfect Storm - Need for change & a new beginning
Education is widely stuck in the 19th century. With the information age that we live it, some schools are evolving and accepting of change. Even though the classrooms are progressing, the professional development for the teachers is not. We need to not only embrace technology and leverage it for students, but also for educators! With the opening of a new school, this is an amazing opportunity to not only make it a great school for students, but an amazing school to be an educator!

Implementation PlanBlended learning is not a new concept by any means. With the buzz word being used quite often in education, many schools and educators are hopping on the band wagon to becoming more student-centered.
With a lot of classrooms using some form of a blended classroom, now more than ever, we need to help our educators on their learning journey. Through a blended type of professional development, educators are introduced to best practices in blended learning through their own experience of face-to-face trainings and online discussions/activities. Living in an information age society allows us to collaborate and discuss with people beyond the walls of our work spaces. My proposal is to implement a blended type of professional development that is beneficial, engaging and most of all encouraging creativity and individuality among each participant. My literature review shows documentation of the benefits of blending professional development.

Corwin (2018 October 17). Catlin Tucker: Power up blended learning webinar [Video File]. Retrieved from https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dgT6zKKu5C8&feature=youtu.be
Catlin talks about not only the importance and the why behind blended learning, but how blending professional development is pertinent to educators as well. Educators are life long learners and they need to be able to learn the way they're teaching their students.
Desimone, L., Porter, A.C., Garet, M. S., Yoon, K.S., Birman, B.F. Effects of professional development on teachers’ instruction: Results from a three-year longitudinal study. Educational evaluation and policy analysis (24)2, 81-112.
The researchers show how over a three year span, how a blended professional development is directly related to growth in student success. They go through the growth and changes they implemented from the beginning of the study to the end. In the beginning, there were strategists that met with teachers. As the study progressed and funding became a big part of it, the researchers were able to pull back from on-site teaching/training and moved to a virtual coaching style.

Teachers need to be sustained in the profession by continual and persistent development. Thanks to modern day technology, teachers have the opportunity to continual growth through MOOC (massive open online courses). The lack of education teachers receive in technology will keep them behind in present day classrooms. Educational technology is the gateway to helping educators stay relevant in an ever changing technological society.
