that have to be taught, it constricts teaching. Educators just have to be creative and learn how to incorporate the mandated skills in a way that will be beneficial for students, as people. Writing out a BHAG has helped me do this. After figuring out what my BHAG was going to be, I started using the Learning Environment-Situational Factors and Questions for Formulating Significant Learning Goals to help guide me through my design. Once I was able to walk through how to get to my BHAG, I was able to put together my 3 column design for my unit. Walking through the 3 column design helps me see how planning can really pay off. I am going to go back to my Innovation Plan and see how I can update it knowing how effective design can be. Although I felt like the 3 column design was vague enough to adapt for different situations (i.e. different class periods I teach), it's also detailed enough for anyone to carry out. This design should be would all educators use to plan their units/chapters helping them focus on what the end goal is and working backwards. Fink's Self-Directed Guide to Designing Courses for Significant Learning is not only beneficial and game changing for me as an educator but it aligns with my Innovation Plan and making professional development blended for educators. This guide along with the 3 column design can help me as I pursue my goal of educational leadership training. It will help me carefully and purposefully design beneficial and pertinent professional development!
