Making the switch of platforms for my ePortfolio was not only necessary but daunting! I have put so much time and effort into building essentially my website about my journey and me, and now I'm moving it! And I thought moving was bad!!!
I started my ePortfolio on Google Sites. This is the same platform that I use for my teacher website for school. My students reference the website for tools to supplement their learning and also as a place for them to submit their assignments.
I have loved Google Sites because...
of the ease and simplicity. It is very easy to not only embed codes but to add in YouTube videos and things stored on my Google Drive. With that simplicity comes limitations. There is no where to archive posts or even tag them.

I was completely on board when a colleague came to me with the idea of having our students make an eportfolio/website. I embraced it with open arms and then after enduring the pain of grading a whole unit on their eportfolio/website, I shied away from it. I am understanding now why I did that. I used it more as a showcase of their work and not as a way to reflect upon what they've done.
I too have used my own eportfolio more as a showcase and not as much as a reflection tool as it could be. I loved the discussion between Seth Godin & Tom Peters talking about how blogging is a tool that anyone can do and it's for their own benefit!! This really resonated with me since writing is not my strength. I love how Seth explained how it is for your own self! I am a firm believer, now, in the power an eportfolio can have for me and any student, if utilized properly. Not only is it to showcase work and knowledge, but if you add the part of reflection into it, the eportfolio can be very beneficial. This course has given me the excitement and fire to have my students continue to add to their sites with not only their work, but to reflect on what they've done so far. Giving them time to do this is essential. I am willing to give my students time to do some reflection in hopes that they will see the benefits of their website/eportfolios. â I am still a bit hesitant on having students add to their eportfolios just because they may not understand the worth of it. There are only a few teachers in the whole school that utilize an eportfolio. If the teachers aren't using them, how do we expect our students to use them? Most of them can't/don't comprehend the benefits of the long term value. How do you motivate students to add to their website/eportfolios on their own?
